Otto Allison III Obituary

Otto Munroe Allison III, beloved husband, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, passed away unexpectedly from a sudden cardiac event on October 6th while digging clams with friends and family on Roosevelt Beach at sunset.

Otto began his life in Arlington, Virginia, as a wonderful Christmas present for his parents Margaret (Peggy) Bunch Allison and Otto Munroe Allison II on December 25, 1946.  His parents migrated to Spokane, WA where Otto graduated from North Central High School.  After time spent in the Washington National Guard, he obtained a BS in Mechanical Engineering from EWSU.  Otto was an accomplished and successful engineer, who spent many years designing industrial equipment for the wood products industry at Globe Machine Manufacturing of Tacoma.  He was especially proud of earning a Professional Engineer Certificate through the University of Washington.

Otto had an incredible zest for life.  He loved boating, camping, fishing, riding bikes and motorcycles, especially antique Harley Davidsons that he spent many hours refurbishing in his large garage dubbed “The Otto Man Empire”.  Otto was very involved with the Evergreen Chapter of the American Motorcycle Association and will be greatly missed by his fellow riders.

His relatives and friends knew Otto to be a whip smart, kind and decent man, always willing to lend a hand with a project and to volunteer his incredible expertise about electronics, gear and gadgets of any kind.  His nephew, a fellow engineer, described Otto as “…just the coolest and nerdiest of uncles”.

Always up for adventure, Otto could be found plying the Salish Sea on a pleasure craft or traveling the world with his many relatives and friends.  He leaves behind his wife, Michelle, in-laws: Richard (Dick) Van Dyk, Vicky McLaughlin, Mike and Lorna Viraldi Van Dyk, Chris and Jeanne Van Dyk, Doug and Leslie Van Dyk, Richard (Jake) and Jonna Van Dyk Jacobson, Cindy Van Dyk Walker, and many dearly beloved nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his brother Dick, brother-in-law Ed Walker, and his dear parents.

Otto was a happy man with a joy and exuberance for living.  His smile was a gift for everyone he met.  He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will take place at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup on October 28th from 12 until 4 pm.  A celebration will take place in the late spring or early summer of 2022 to honor him and a life well lived.
