Adonna Malene Bondahl Galusha was born on November 21, 1934, in Tracy, Minnesota, to Gunnar H. Bondahl and Alice T. Villa Bondahl. She spent her early childhood in Westbrook, Minnesota, before her family moved to Spokane, Washington, where her father opened a radio and television store. She graduated from North Central High School in Spokane, Washington.
Adonna fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse, graduating from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington and Emmanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Oregon, in 1957. That same year, she married the love of her life, Walter (Bud) Jerome Galusha Jr. Together, they raised five children and shared a life rooted in love, faith, and family.
Adonna dedicated her nursing career to caring for children as a Registered Nurse at Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Her gentle spirit, compassion, and unwavering patience touched countless lives, both professionally and personally. She was known for her selfless heart, always placing the needs of others before her own, and living out her Christian faith as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Adonna loved following all her children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events—always their biggest cheerleader.
After retiring, Adonna spent her time traveling across the country to visit her children and grandchildren, cherishing every moment with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gunnar and Alice Bondahl, her brother Gary Bondahl, her beloved husband Bud, her sweet daughter Kristine Near, and her grandson Joey Caron.
Adonna is survived by her children: Scott (Elena) Galusha, Gwyn (Steven) Smith, Shannon (Kevin) Konishi, Karen (Donald) Dove; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Adonna—a devoted wife, sweet mom, loving grandma, and proud great-grandma (Bestemor)—will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love, grace, and kindness lives on in all of us. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace with Jesus.
