Allen Leroy Meeds

August 22, 1950 — November 6, 2025

Listen to Obituary

Allen LeRoy Meeds was born on August 21, 1950 in Colville, Washington. Because there was no doctor in attendance, his birth certificate was signed and dated on August 22, a fortuitous happening. In 1963, Al's father, Dale, was killed in a logging accident on August 21; the decision to leave the birth certificate with the incorrect date was never brought up again. His parents, Dale & Nellie Wansick Meeds have predeceased him.

Al grew up in the northeastern part of Washington and the Idaho peninsula, with a very short stint in Oklahoma.

Al elected to attend Pacific Lutheran University after graduating from Newport High School, where he met his life-long love, Sharon.

40+ years ago they moved from Southern California, became active in their local United Methodist Church, then into Youth and Camping ministries and never looked back.

Al was very involved in church, no matter where; he led Youth Groups for 30 years, and at Browns Point helped lead our ‘Easy Writers’ group as they all became better writers, serving as Lay Leader and then leading Staff Parish relations. Camping Minitries were important and he served on the Camping Board of Stewards while starting and running his own Consulting company after retirement from 40 years with State Farm Fire Co.

He enjoyed his model HO trains and the train club and meets they would go to and built 2 totally different layouts at home. He helped Sharon make quilts - not the sewing part, but with an eye to the perfect layout of the blocks and patterns.

He traveled with Sharon and Brie to Scotland, Disneyland, other wonderful places and had just returned from a relaxing week in the Coastal Redwoods of California.

Al is survived by Sharon, his beloved spouse, chosen daughter, Brie Blackstone, 'padawan' son, Ben Brewin, in-laws, Debbie & Paul Max, 3 sisters, nephews Joshua Max and Russell Wright and niece, Jennifer Crosen.

Details for a Memorial Service are forthcoming.
