Bonnie Mae Grimes

Bonnie Mae Grimes went to be with Jesus on January 31, 2026, in Tacoma, WA, at the age of 79. Born May 15, 1946, in Yakima, WA to Henry and Audry Grimes, Bonnie was the youngest of five children. Bonnie spent her early childhood years in Wapato, WA. In 1954, her family moved to Sumner, WA. In January 1956, they attended Sumner Assembly of God (Sumner Family Church) for the first time, where Bonnie remained a faithful member ever since. In 1966, Bonnie moved with her parents to Tacoma.

Bonnie loved to read books, play games, watch old TV shows, and spend time with family and friends. She was a great help to Henry and Audry at home. She loved their orange tabby cat, Tinker, which they had for many years. Bonnie and her folks were huge Sonics fans and liked watching basketball games on TV. Bonnie enjoyed collecting souvenirs from the many trips they took.

Family campouts were a favorite activity of Bonnie’s. She spent hours playing card games, shuffleboard, and the family marble game. Bonnie’s competitive nature led to many knock-down, drag-out marble games with her nieces and nephews! After every game, there was almost always a rematch, guaranteed to be as exciting as the first.

Bonnie participated in Bible studies at her church and was active in her Bible Study Fellowship group for a number of years. Church was very important to Bonnie, and the friends she made there were like family to her.

Bonnie was a friend to all. She loved to joke around and always had a smile on her face. Her laugh was contagious. She spread joy to all those who knew her.

In 2021, Bonnie moved to Tacoma Nursing and Rehab, where she lived until her death. While there, she enjoyed making crafts, playing bingo, and going on outings. She often liked to tease and laugh with her nurses.

Bonnie is survived by her six loving nephews and nieces and their families, and her many cousins. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Audry Grimes, of Tacoma; brothers, James and Joseph Grimes; and sisters Mary Ellen (Bill) Olson and Jean (Ernie) Treadway.
