Donald L. Roy was born on March 12, 1952, in Southington, Connecticut, and died on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by his children. Donald was the son of the late Irene Rhinehart and Lucien Roy of Meriden, Connecticut.
Don graduated from Platt High School and joined the United States Air Force on October 6, 1970. He completed basic training at Lackland AFB and technical training at Travis AFB. He served in Vietnam and was assigned to the 319th Organizational Maintenance Squadron, part of Strategic Air Command, at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey and Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota.
On April 2, 1979, Donald received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force. On May 2, 1979, he began his career with Boeing and retired on July 31, 2018. At Boeing, he worked on the 737 and the 757, his pride and joy.
He met the love of his life, Lora, in December 1973, and they were married on September 14, 1974, in Connecticut. Together, they raised three children. Donald was deeply devoted to his family and took great pride in providing his children with the opportunity for a good education. He believed in giving them a strong foundation for their futures, and ensuring they had those opportunities was one way he showed his love and commitment as a father.
He loved fishing and airplanes, and whenever he could, he enjoyed relaxing on the lake.
Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Lora; his brother, Brian; his mother, Irene; his father, Lucien; and his grandparents, as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer (William) of Graham and Kimberlie (Erick) of Spanaway; his son, Michael of Orting; and his four grandchildren, Erick, Colby, Lauren, and Loni.
A service honoring Don's life will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Covington, Washington, for family and friends.
Don will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his commitment to his children's futures, and the life he shared with those closest to him. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, and all those who knew and loved him.
