Bonney Lake, WA. She was born on Aug 1, 1931 in Morris, MN to Rolla and Sophie
(Nelson) Werline. Donna grew up in Chokio and Alexandria, MN. Following her
graduation from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1953, she became a high
school English teacher and librarian in Milaca, MN. She married Carl E. L. Lucky, Jr. on
June 8, 1957, and they moved to St. Paul, MN where Carl was attending Luther
Theological Seminary. After his graduation, Carl was ordained as a Lutheran pastor
and became a Chaplain in the United States Army. Carl and Donna lived in a variety of
places during his service in the Army, including Georgia, Germany, Brooklyn, NY,
Missouri, Minnesota while Carl was serving in Vietnam, South Carolina, Germany again,
and finally Ft Lewis, WA where Carl retired from the Army. In 1979, the family moved
to Vancouver, WA where Carl was called to be the pastor of Family of Christ Lutheran
Church. Across this array of locations, Donna raised her two sons, Stephen and David,
and was very active in her church and community. Following her husband’s death in
1983, Donna moved into her own home where she lived for over 25 years. She
remained a very active member of Family of Christ Lutheran Church, serving for many
years as a Sunday school teacher as well as on the parish council and a term as council
president. She also led a ladies bible study in her home for decades. In addition,
Donna was an avid home gardener and backyard bird enthusiast, often spending hours
planting, replanting, and planning the future of her beautiful terraces. Donna was a kind,
gentle lady who quietly brought her love for others wherever she went. She will be
greatly missed by her many family members and friends. She is survived by her sister,
Mina Johnson of St Louis Park, MN, sons Stephen Lucky (Cheryl) of Springfield, VA,
