Gregory John Leaf

August 27, 1954 — May 28, 2025

Gregory John Leaf passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his home in Puyallup on May 28, 2025. Born on August 27, 1954 in Seattle, Greg was the oldest son of John and Connie Leaf. He lived in many places across the country growing up, including Chicago IL, Gettysburg PA, and Lynnwood WA.  Greg attended Roanoke College in Salem, VA and graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He worked for almost 40 years in the forest industry as a scientist for Weyerhaeuser in Federal Way.

On March 17, 1978, Greg married Debbie Schroeder in Longview, WA. They were married 47 years and had 4 daughters, Jennifer, Rebecca (Joel), Elisabeth (Takayuki), and Melissa (Jeremiah). He spent his retirement years doting on his 6 grandkids and 3 granddogs. Papa Greg always had a fun treat or a special song for all the kids who came in the house.

God gave Greg a talent and passion for music. His ministry was playing piano for church services and choirs throughout the area. He instilled his love of music in his daughters and grandkids, attending their concerts and taking them to the local symphonies.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents John and Connie Leaf. In addition to leaving behind his wife and 4 daughters, he is also survived by his brothers Gary (May) and Walter, and his sister Cindy (Ray), as well as several nieces and nephews.

He will be laid to rest at the Sumner Cemetery near his parents on June 5, 2025. A memorial celebration of his life will be held later this summer. In place of flowers, please consider making a donation in Greg’s honor to either the Tacoma Symphony/Mini Maestros program or the Yakima Symphony.
