Iris Annette Solomon

Iris Solomon passed away peacefully in Tacoma, Washington, on July 21, 2026, at age 87. In her final days, Iris was attended to by her immediate family and is survived by her daughter, Ashlie (Steph Terrien); sons, Jeff (Ashlee) and Paul (Shannon); grandchildren, Ethan, Ryan, Presley, and Quinn; and extended family coast to coast.

Iris grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, a beauty among her three brothers and other siblings as the family blended over time. There, Iris would eventually meet Jim Solomon, a young U.S. Air Force officer who would become her husband for more than 60 years until his passing last year. After several moves for military assignments, Puyallup became the established base for the family, and there Iris greatly enjoyed their home’s lovely yard and Mount Rainier view. Over the years, countless good times and lasting memories were made with friends in the neighborhood and through the Air Force.

Iris committed herself to homemaking and raising her three children. She was excellent in the kitchen, and the family enjoyed the benefits of that talent, most notably at dinnertime and during holidays. Iris was also a eager volunteer in the kids’ classrooms and elsewhere in the community. Her passion for service eventually led Iris to join ChildReach, a local agency that screens children for developmental needs. When taking time for herself, Iris enjoyed exercising, gardening, and reading. 

After the kids finally left the house (and their boomeranging had ceased), pet dogs provided Iris with the opportunity to redirect her instinctive care and nurturing. These furred companions were beloved—providing a common focus for Iris and Jim and serving as a source of great comfort and enjoyment as the years carried on. As time passed, Iris continued her quiet endeavors of cooking, gardening, and reading, but also rediscovered painting and began learning to play guitar. Had Keith Richards not outlived her, The Rolling Stones surely would have called upon her newly developed guitar skills.

Iris is remembered by her children and grandchildren for her unfaltering love and affection. Her first concern was always for the comfort of those around her. She is dearly missed.
