Jack Wallace Phillips

May 23, 1938 — June 2, 2025

Jack Wallace Phillips—a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend—passed away peacefully at 1:59 p.m. on June 2, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on May 23, 1938, in Tacoma, Washington, to Wallace Ralph Phillips (Joyce Phillips) and Ruth Alberta Welch (Marion Wayne Cole), Jack spent his early years in Sumner, where he graduated from Sumner High School in 1957. Shortly after, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army.

Jack embarked on a distinguished career as a draftsman at Boeing in the early 1960s, contributing his keen eye and steady hand to countless projects. His professional journey also led him to Prospectve Industries, where he was instrumental in developing automated drafting and design tools, and to Flow Industries in engineering. Jack returned to Boeing in the mid-1970s, where he remained until his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of craftsmanship and dedication.

In 1959, Jack married the love of his life, Carole A. Wininger, and together for 65 years they built a beautiful family filled with love and laughter. He especially delighted in celebrating the holidays surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he cherished family vacations and get-togethers at local restaurants, where he enjoyed sharing stories and meals with those he loved.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Robert Phillips, and half-sister Diane Cole. He is survived by his four devoted children: Jackie Wanaka (Guyle), Mark Phillips (Angel), Kathy Schirman (Jim), and Kim Phillips (April). He is also survived by his brother Ralph Phillips, sister Linda Skeels, and multiple half and step siblings: Doug, Dan, Sue, Nancy, Janet, Barbara, Steve, Elaine, Audrey, Doug H, and Kimberly.

Jack’s legacy lives on through his eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and the many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends who were blessed to know him.

Jack’s unwavering dedication to family, his gentle spirit, and his quiet strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
