Michael John Rees, 69, passed away on February 7, 2026, in Puyallup, Washington, the city where he was born and spent the majority of his life.
Born on February 24, 1956, in Puyallup to Daryl and Helen Rees, Michael, known to many as Mike, was a lifelong member of the community he loved. He attended All Saints Catholic School and graduated from Sequim High School, laying the foundation for a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.
Mike met the love of his life, Lynnette Rees, in 2002, and they were married in April of 2003. They went on many adventures together, and most of all, just loved being together. They loved hosting dinner parties at their house and enjoying the company of family and friends!
Mike built a respected career as a master tile setter. His craftsmanship was evident in every project he touched, reflecting not only his skill but also his dedication to excellence. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mike was deeply committed to helping others. He was known for his extraordinary generosity and selflessness. During the colder months, he would often buy umbrellas and other necessities to donate to people experiencing homelessness. He had a passion for helping others, and his family and friends would usually say that if he only had five dollars and someone else had a need, he would give them his last five dollars!
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mike is survived by his beloved wife Lynnette Rees; sons Daryl Rees, Joseph Rees, and Christopher Rees; stepdaughters Jennifer Milden and Michelle Ziegwied; and grandchildren Mikayla Ayers, Katelyn Danley, Ryan Danley, Ethan Ziegwied, Dylan Ziegwied, and Khaleesi Rees; and siblings Kathleen, Maureen, and Larry. His parents, Daryl and Helen Rees, and sisters, Letha, Teresa, and Beatrice, preceded him in death.
Mike found joy in simple pleasures. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed many adventures with his sons, including skiing, swimming, and fishing in Alaska. He would often tell stories of his Alaska adventures and the fond memories he had with his sons. Mike also had an excellent eye for detail and was a fantastic artist. He did oil paintings, sketching, and much more. He loved playing backgammon with his family and other dice and card games. He had a great love for his family and friends and never missed an event. Even if he had worked 12 hours and was exhausted, he did not complain and would still show up with a smile, ready to have some fun!
A man of faith throughout his life, Mike worshipped at All Saints Catholic Church and at many other Catholic churches over the years. His values were reflected not only in his religious devotion but also in his treatment of others, with kindness, humility, and unwavering generosity.
Michael John Rees leaves behind a legacy of love and compassion that will continue to inspire all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.
