Raymond J. Hackbarth passed away on June 14, 2025 at the age of 93. He was born on July 23, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois.
Ray leaves behind his wife Sandy Hackbarth; stepsons Mason (Andrea) and Michael (Kylie) Thomson; and twin step-grandsons Jack and Hudson. He is also survived by his daughters Diane (Lee) Glinn, Deb (Tony) Garland; son Roy Hackbarth; granddaughters Heather (Demetri) Themelis and Ashley (Spencer) Enos; and great grandchildren Eliana and Constantine Themelis. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lillian Hackbarth; and his former wife Mariane Moore.
From 1951 to 1955 Ray served in the United States Air Force. Although the USAF tried to coax him to serve another term for pilot training he had obligations at home to fill. Ray retired from Boeing in 1995 after 40 years of service. He was proud to have worked with the design team for the Minute Man, AWACS, and Stealth Bomber.
Ray loved the outdoors and enjoyed hiking, camping, and bicycling throughout Washington in his younger years. He was an avid camera, coin, and radio collector, and he never met a vintage car he didn't like. His stable was full of Fords-- 1966 Mustangs were his favorite.
A funeral to celebrate Ray, with a reception following, will be held at Powers Funeral Home at 1:30pm on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
Ray asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made in his remembrance to:
