Richard Scott Lyle Hawkshaw, 63, of Puyallup, Washington, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026. Richard was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend whose presence left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born on May 25,1962, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, Richard was the son of Richard Alan Perry Hawkshaw and Beverly Arlene Hawkshaw (Harvey). In 1980, Richard graduated from San Pedro High School, in California, where he enjoyed running track. After graduating from San Pedro High School, in California, where he enjoyed running track. After graduating, Richard spent two years in Alaska working on commercial fishing boat before returning to California. There he worked during the day in sales while attending a community college at night, eventually earning his Associate Degree in Business and Computer Science from the College of the Canyons.
Richard moved to Washington State and eventually bought a home in Puyallup, Washington, where he resided with Sandy until his passing.
Some of the companies Richard worked for throughout his career are: Micheals Pipeline as a crew leader; Santana Trucking and Excavation; and the Washington State Department of Transportation. In 2014, Richard was hired with the Seattle Public Utilities as a Journeyman and performed various duties. He remained with SPU until his passing.
Richard was well known throughout the community for his kindness, loyalty and willingness to help others. For more than 20 years, he spent countless days fishing on the Puyallup River alongside his cherished PRG (Puyallup River Gang) family. His friendships with the PRG gang became an important part of his life and brought him endless joy and laughter over the years.
Richard has a deep love for Harley motorcycles; camping trips; fishing adventures with his son, brother, friends and the PRG gang; woodworking, gardening and movie night with family and friends. He had a talent for finding the best bargains and discounts and took pride in the simple joys of life.
More than anything, Richard treasured time spent with the people he loved. He was a pillar among his family, friends and community- dependable, generous, hardworking and always ready with a helping hand or a story to share. His strength, humor, and caring spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Hawkshaw; his children, Jesse Estes and Michael Hawkshaw; his birth parents Richard Hawkshaw and Arlene VanHooiser (Hawkshaw); his step parents George VanHoosier and Mary Hawkshaw; his brothers Stuart, Alan and Stephen Hawkshaw; his stepchildren, Brian and Brad Nelson; 5 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Through Richards footsteps may no longer walk besides us, the love, the laughter, and the memories he created will continue to live on in all who knew him.
A celebration of Richards life will be held at the Orting Parks & Recreation Multi-purpose Center, 202 Washington Ave, South Orting, WA 98364 on June 13, 2026 from 12pm-4pm. Food will be provided.
