Listen to Obituary

Shane Elizabeth Illies, 58, of Edgewood, WA, passed away January 15, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy of unwavering generosity, kindness, and compassion for others. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup, WA.

Born on August 9, 1967, Shane was the second daughter of Terry and Kathryn (Lawrence) Frazee. After graduating from Brooten High School in Brooten, MN in 1985, Shane earned bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry in 1989 from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. It was at Gustavus where she met her husband, Gerald. Shane and Gerald were married in December 1991.

Soon after graduation, Shane embarked on a lifelong track to help and improve the lives of others. As a dedicated public servant with the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Shane worked to limit the spread of sexually-transmitted infections in Chicago, Philadelphia, and the State of Wisconsin; protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases in Kansas City and the State of Washington; and improve the quality and safety of healthcare services provided to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. After more than 34 years of distinguished Government service, Shane retired in February 2024.

Shane lived her life with strong convictions while caring deeply for others. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; a second mom to many; and a steadfast friend to many more. She was selfless in her words and actions; compassionate towards others, regardless of who they were or where they were from; and always looked out for the well-being of others. She showed up for others during the most difficult times, lending a helping hand, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen with, or providing a home-cooked meal. She was a rock and the guiding light to those she loved so dearly. She had a place in her heart for everyone she encountered. She was an exceptional designer and decorator, an outstanding crafter and card-maker, and an excellent cook.

Left to cherish Shane’s memory are husband Gerald, son Brendan and daughter-in-law Victoria, grandchildren Elliott and Dakota, mother Kathryn, sister Dawn, mother-in-law Donna Illies, sisters-in-law Georgina Illies, Linda Illies, and Jennifer Illes, brother-in-law Gregory Illies, 8 nieces and nephews, 10 grand nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends and colleagues. Shane was preceded in death by her father Terry Frazee, father-in-law Eugene Illies, brother-in-law John Illies, and brother-in-law Dave Redepenning.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Shane be honored through a donation to a charity of your choice and open your heart to be more kind and compassionate towards others.
