Susan Ann Hudacek

Susie-Q was born in Quincy CA to John and Marjorie Hudacek. She grew up in northern California among the rice patties. After spending time in school and working in San Francisco, she moved to Northern British Columbia where she volunteered with the indigenous people. This began her lifelong pilgrimage searching for meaning and God’s love among the poor. Sue spent 48 years in L’Arche, an international organization celebrating the gifts that people with intellectual disabilities bring to our communities. During her time, she shared life with people with intellectual disabilities in Seattle, the Dominican Republic, France, Canada, and finally the last 35 years in Tacoma, WA. Sue’s faith was a guidepost in her life, leading her to work with Tacoma Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL) team, and well as Street Psalms, faithfully journeying with others as they also searched for meaning and God’s love.

Sue was a woman of many passions. Her youthful and curious mind kept her captivated by history. She loved the thrill of a new adventure and traveled all over the world, though Paris always held a special place in her heart. Sue found joy in the garden, especially watching her well cared for dahlias proliferate at the end of the summer. Her creativity and eye for beauty were exemplified in her fine beadwork, photography, and creative cards. And of course, we cannot describe Sue without mentioning her flare for pranks and the lengths she would go for a good laugh.

Sue died unexpectedly on December 5th 2025, peacefully in her sleep. Though her life was shorter than expected, she lived it with her heart open wide.

She is survived by her 4 siblings: Dave and Debi Hudacek, and their five children, Corbin, Tyler, Natalie, Colin and Blake; Ann Hudacek and Marvin Biasotti; Teresa Hudacek and Filip Bajovic, and their sons, Kosta and Luka: and Mary and Gerald Brownell, and their children, John and Hannah.

Funeral mass will be on January 10th at Holy Disciples Catholic Church in Puyallup, WA at 10:30am, followed by lunch and a reception. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations can be made to L’Arche Tahoma Hope Community, 12302 Vickery Ave E., Tacoma, WA 98446. (larchetahomahope.org/donate)
