Laura Stoner Obituary

Born February 7, 1933, in Colfax Washington to Orpha and Kenneth Gray.  An only child who enjoyed Sunday drives with her parents.  She lived in Renton, Hoquiam, finally settling in Puyallup with her parents in 1939.  Attending Puyallup High School she graduated in 1950 where she met her future husband William (Bill) on the school tennis courts (which is ironic given Laura wasn’t at all athletic).

Bill and Laura were married on December 26, 1952, and were together for 54 years, until Bill’s passing in 2005.  During their early years together, they lived in Georgia while Bill served in the military.  During that time Laura worked in a retail store and she reported that she found the South very interesting.

Bill and Laura had three children.  Son Sandy Stoner, deceased 2016, survived by ex-wife Lis, and sons Brendan and San Stoner.  Daughter Kerry Stoner and son-in-law Mark Piper.  Son Shawn Stoner and wife Pam Marshall Stoner, and daughter Rowyn Stoner and son William (Liam) Stoner.

Laura’s grandchildren were very important to her.  She enjoyed watching movies and hanging out together, attending their school and sporting activities.  You could find her many a Saturday watching soccer games and cheering them on.  Laura’s home was always a place where her kids, their friends, and her grandchildren felt safe and welcome.

Laura was active in the community.  Some of the many activities she pursued were Queen Mother of the Daffodil festival, P.E.O. Chapter CX member for over 47 years, as well as a board member for Pierce College.  Other interests included book club, bridge club, and many more.  Laura worked at the Hobbie Hall at the Washington State Fair for over twenty years until Bill was appointed to the Fair Board.  They enjoyed many years on the Board and made many forever friends.

Laura also worked as a travel agent at Puyallup Travel (aka Astro Travel) and helped many folks travel the world just as much as she and Bill did.  Her favorite places were Hawaii and her cabin on Clear Lake in Eatonville

Laura loved her family very much and was extremely proud of them, they were always her first priority.  She will be missed by family and friends alike but lives on in their hearts.  Rest in peace.

In lieu of flowers please make donation to the Bill and Laura Stoner scholarship fund at the Fair Foundation.  Be sure to specify Bill and Laura Stoner scholarship fund.
