Ray Fochtman Obituary

Ray Eugene Fochtman

September 16, 1947-May 25, 2023 (75 years old)

Ray Fochtman died Thursday May 25, 2023 in Tacoma Washington. Ray was born in Weiser, Idaho on September 16, 1947 to Roy and LaVeta (Carver) Fochtman. He grew up in the Puyallup Valley, graduating from Sumner High School in 1966. Serving as a union pipefitter, Ray worked in Tacoma and Alaska.

Ray is survived by his children Virginia Zander and Kevin (Cassandra) Fochtman; his brothers James Fochtman and Doug (Sharon) Fochtman; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three nephews, one niece and multiple great nieces and nephews that love him very much. Spending time with family where he could share advice and stories of his adventures was one of Ray’s favorite things to do. He is preceded in death by his mother, father and grandson, Kevin Jr.

As an avid outdoorsman, Ray loved to fish and hunt. He spent years walking the banks of the Puyallup river fishing for steelhead and salmon with his grandfather and nephew. Ray went on many hunting trips with his son.  As a young man, he was a member of a jeep club with his hunting buddies. With his dad and brothers, Ray helped build their Alderton home and work their five acres raising animals and produce for family use. Ray had recently discovered his green thumb, leaving his loved ones with beautiful rose bushes to remember him with.

Ray enjoyed adventure, living in Washington, Arkansas, Idaho, California, Texas and Arizona. He liked spending time with his family and friends. Ray served as a friendly gate greeter at Sundance RV park while living in Arizona. Ray delighted in teasing others, doing it with a twinkle in his eye. He returned to Washington in 2018, settling in Sumner to be close to family.
