Richard Lundstrom Obituary

Richard Daniel Lundstrom passed away on 3 September 2022 at Spiritwood Nursing home in Issaquah Washington.  He had been a long time resident of Ocean Shores, Washington.  He was born 9 May 1941 in Ellensburg, Kittitas, Washington to Fred and Lucille Lundstrom.

Rick graduated from Livingston High School in 1959. Graduated from Milton College in 1963 and later graduated from Central Washington State College with a Master of Education degree.

Rick met Shirley Zitka in high school, and they were married on 18 Aug 1962 in Wisconsin.

During high school Ricks principal instrument was the trumpet and he was in the school band.  He was also in the band at Milton College as well as the Choir.  During High School and then into college Rick and Shirley played together in The Rhondevoo Trio with Helen Lyght in Wisconsin. 

Rick taught band in the Benton City, near the Tri-Cities for 3 years.  He and Shirley then moved to Aberdeen, and he taught band at 5 of the 6 Aberdeen elementary schools for 27 years.

Rick was in The Aberdeen Elks band.  They performed for Elk’s conventions in New Orleans, Las Vegas, Honolulu, Huston and Seattle. 

Rick and Shirley also played together under the name Rick –A—Shirl’s and often went to Ronald Washington and played at a tavern there.

Rick and Shirley, along with Jeff Hood and Rob Hilliard were in a dance band called the Harbor Lights in the Aberdeen area.  They were frequent players at the Hoquiam Elks and Aberdeen Eagles Club.

Ricks is survived by his sister, Betty Harrison Rolie, of Issaquah Washington and his brother, Jim Harrison of Quincy, Washington.  Niece’s Cathy Cadd and her husband Bob Cadd, Barbara Buquing and her husband Richard, of Bothell Washington, nephews Terry Lee, Robb Lee and Daniel Harrison and his wife Connie.

Preceding Rick in death was his wife Shirley in 2020, his father Fred in 2005 and his mother Lucille in 1990.

Inurnment will be at Powers Woodlawn Abbey, Sumner Washington
