Stephanie Kettlewell Obituary

On May 5, 2022 Stephanie L. Kettlewell passed away at her family’s home in Puyallup, WA of complications from Leiomyosarcoma. She was 51 years old.

Stephanie is survived by her parents William and Dorothy Kettlewell; her son Ryan; daughter Megan; partner Casey Proud, sister Amy Booker; and brother Timothy Kettlewell.

Stephanie was born on May 30, 1970, in Oakland, CA. It wasn’t long before she moved to Brazil with her parents who are missionaries with Baptist Mid-missions.  She graduated from Fortaleza Academy in 1988 and moved back to the United States to attend college in Pennsylvania. Stephanie took a slight detour and joined the U.S. Army in 1989. She served 30 honorable years in the U.S Army and the Washington Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant Major.  For her service, she earned the Legion of Merit, among many other commendations and awards, also proudly serving her country overseas.  In the midst of serving, attending military schools, raising 2 amazing children, Stephanie graduated from City University in Seattle, in 2007 with a B.S. in Business Administration.  She liked to joke about completing the 17-year program. Stephanie retired in 2020 and was proud to take on a new career at Amazon. Continuing to work through all her adversity with immense strength, courage and grace. Never giving up.

Stephanie liked to say, “It’s the journey, not the destination.”  The journey is where she met so many amazing people…found joy in the simple things in life…loved and lived for adventure…Changed every life she touched…She is and always will be the best of us…She is forever the light of our lives… And will never be forgotten.

Two of Stephanie’s favorite verses: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  2 Corinthians 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that Christ may rest upon me.

Tahoma National Cemetery will host services for the family with full military honors.
